Bareboat Certification
in the Bahamas BBC 104 and CON 105
For more advanced
students who have achieved the Basic Keelboat Sailing certification, FYC also offers a one-week
(7 full days and nights) liveaboard, cruising adventure in the
Bahamas, and a chance to earn your Basic Coastal Cruising and
Bareboat credentials. This course emphasizes self-reliance as
the skipper of a 35- to 50-foot vessel.
- You'll practice
advanced navigation using marine electronics, and improve your
piloting skills while exploring beautiful tropical islands.
- Upon successful
completion of both written and on-water, you'll be certified
to bareboat charter (and may want to extend your vacation another
week as captain of your own boat).
- The itinerary
for this course features a gulfstream crossing, from Miami Beach
to the Bimini islands and back.
- The course fee
includes a fully equipped sailing yacht; ASA instructor fee;
Cruising Fundamentals, exams and certification fees; all meals
onboard; free "Go Bare" t-shirt and a matching suntan!
This Gulfstream
crossing builds confidence in big boat handling and navigation
skills. Prerequisite: Basic Keelboat sailing. This advanced course
will cover Basic Coastal Cruising and Bareboat Chartering with
an itinerary from Miami to the Bahamas and return to Miami. Class
begins noon Saturday and finishes noon Friday.

Cruise 'N Couple Course
- Just for the
2 of you - plus your skipper. Learn to sail or improve your cruising
skills in this private instructional course designed for couples.
- Taught aboard
a new Hunter 336, this week-long course includes all meals, ASA
instructor fees, ASA textbooks, and certification fee.
- Seven days and
six nights, with plenty of time for snorkeling, sunning &
sightseeing!

Level 1 - Basic Keelboat Sailing - BKB 101
Our most popular class, sail on the secluded waters of Biscayne
Bay.
This course is
designed for novice sailors, and requires no prior sailing experience.
Learn sailing terminology, theory and essential onboard tasks.
Topics include: safety, points of sail, tacking, gybing, Rules
of the Road, man-overboard procedures, and basic knot tying.
ASA's Sailing Fundamentals textbook and logbook are included.
BKS 1: One afternoon of Classroom training, beginning at 6pm
on Friday. Saturday and Sunday are spent daysailing on beautiful
Biscayne Bay. Out-of-town students have option of sleeping onboard
school boats at the docks for an additional fee.
- Classroom: Friday
6-9pm -- On-The-Water Training: Saturday and Sunday 9am - 5pm.
Skills emphasized: basic sailboat terminology, rules of the road,
on the water safety, sail handling skills, and knot tying.

size vessel typically used.
- The actual boat
size used may vary with the number of students enrolled in a
particular course.
- There are typically
3-5 students and one instructor per boat.
- Our Courses
are 7 days 7 nights, please note this when comparing us to other
sailing schools.
- In the event
there are less than 3 students enrolled, management reserves
the right to use a smaller boat or reschedule courses for a later
date, with 21 days' notice to students.
- Course fees
do not include travel costs associated with getting to and from
course locations.
